"The secret of good teaching is to regard the child's intelligence as a fertile field in which seeds may be sown, to grow under the heat of flaming imagination." -Maria Montessori

About The Village Montessori SchoolThe Village Montessori School has proudly served the Cheyenne community for over 25 years. We have been an important, active member in the education of its children. In continuing to strive for excellence, we have always and would like to continue proving ourselves as a pre-school with a difference. At the Village Montessori School, we offer a Montessori philosophy and education not readily available in Cheyenne. We offer a uniquely hands-on environment that encourages independent, self-directed learning for life in a child-centered, international community valuing peace, respect for others and pride in individual difference. Each classroom contains a full range of educational equipment and activities. Parents are welcome and encouraged to visit the classroom and discuss the teaching methods and child care with teachers or the Director. We receive funds from the USDA/CACF Program to assist us in providing nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day. We offer breakfast, 2 snacks and lunch for all of our full-time students. USDA and The Village Montessori School are equal opportunity providers and employers. There are classes for children ages 2 - 12 years. We offer full and part-time hours. Part-time is considered to be either five 5 hour days or three 8 hour days per week. If you are interested in our program, you may contact the Director for availability. If a spot is not available at the time, your name may be put on a waiting list, and you will be notified when a slot becomes available. Upon registration, a $40.00 non-refundable deposit will be collected along with all necessary information. All students are required to have up-to-date immunization records on file at the school. We do provide transportation to and/or from many local schools for our older, school-age children. Our hours are from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday. We are closed on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, Memorial Day Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Thanksgiving Friday, and Christmas Day. We also close early on Cheyenne Day (at 1:00) and Christmas Eve (at 2:00).There is one teacher in-service day per year (usually some time in May) for our teachers to attend the annual Stand and Celebrate educational conference in Casper. Emergency closing procedures provide that The Village Montessori School will close only when federal and state offices and Cheyenne public schools are closed. The Village Montessori School, established in 1975, is a non-profit corporation, licensed by the Wyoming Department of Family Services, and complies with all governmental standards. The Village Montessori School has a volunteer Board of Directors that sets policies, tuition, and otherwise oversees its general operation. Daily operations of the school are the responsibility of the Director and Assistant Director. This year, there have been some significant changes in the Pre-K room. We are currently operating as a part time Montessori program, but are slowly steering ourselves toward a full time Montessori Pre-school. You will notice the room will be more divided. You will find new "areas" around the room including a cultural area, art area and peaceful zone. These will allow the children to choose where they wish to be and how long they would like to spend at any given task. This goes along with the Montessori philosophy of free choice. Please feel free to look around and ask your child about the different zones and how they know whether the areas are open or full. If you have any further questions you may wish to check out our Montessori Philosophy page and follow some of the links there to more information on the concept. Eventually all of the rooms will make this transition, so if your child is not in the Pre-K room, don't worry, your child will see the changes soon. If you have any questions about the changes directly affecting the school, please come chat with Ms. Teresa, Ms. Vickie or your child's teacher. |

I was born and raised in Boston, MA. and received a Bachelor's degree in marketing and management in 1990. I then moved to England where I lived for 11 years. After the birth of my three children I became interested in early childhood education. When my children started to attend pre-school, I became an assistant at Newton Longville pre-school in Oxford England. I received an early childhood education certification and taught at this school until I moved back to the states in 2001. I have been with the Village Montessori School since 2002. I received my Montessori Certification in 2003 and became the head Montessori teacher, in addition to the pre-k teacher. I took the position as Director in January 2006. I enjoy art, music and literature. |

I have lived in Cheyenne for over 10 years, having first come to the area by way of the U.S. Air Force, stationed at FE Warren AFB. In 2002 I acquired an Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems-Computer Programming, while working full time at the school. After graduation, I took a position as a computer programmer only to realize how much I missed the children. I have worked at the Village Montessori School since 2000, first as a teachers assistant in the Pre-K room, then moving into the Kindergarten room where I taught for 4 years. I received my Montessori certification in the summer of 2005. I love teaching and I love this school, so I was thrilled to be placed in the Assistant Director position in 2006 where I now have a hand in the daily operations of the school. My other passions are my two wonderful children, my Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, collecting gemstones, horseback riding and camping/hiking. |
